Description **JOB SUMMARY:** The Public Relations Intern will support the Smith Entertainment Group business communications team on a variety of strategies and objectives aimed at educating key audiences about the organization and its role as an innovator in sports and entertainment. This is a season-long, full-time internship that will provide foundational support across multiple facets of the organization’s brand, business and facilities-focused PR efforts, working with and learning from the SEG business communications team as requested and assigned. **DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:** * Develop an understanding of brand voice to assist with drafting talking points, social copy, press releases, media advisories and newsletters. * Manage media monitoring and daily clips processes; provide internal departments with key metrics upon request. * Compile detailed coverage metrics and reports for specific campaigns. * Manage daily clips reporting for brand/business communications. * Build, manage and maintain media and and influencer contact lists. * Assist with strategic planning and pitches; research and present ideas for collaborative storytelling and content. * Provide support at basketball and hockey games, arena shows and media events as needed. * Protect the reputation of the company. * Maintain a professional decorum at all activations and events. * Exemplify the Smith Entertainment Group mission and values: transparent, all in, community obsessed, one team and scrappy. * Accept other duties for Smith Entertainment Group, as assigned. **COMPETENCIES:** * ***Communicates Effectively -*** Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences. * ***Action Oriented -*** Taking on new opportunities and rough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm. * ***Cultivates Innovation -*** Creating new and better ways for the organization to be successful. * ***Professionalism -*** Approaches every situation and scenario with business decorum. **QUALIFICATIONS:** * Undergraduate degree, or pursuing studies in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field preferred. * Completed coursework, or have professional experience in, content strategy, PR, communications and/or professional writing and editing. * Knowledge or proficiency in social media platforms, including posting and content best practices. * Prior internships or experience working at an agency, in corporate PR, an athletic department or sports environment is preferred. * Passion for sports. * Can demonstrate strong communication and writing skills. * Understands news cycles and identifies trends and storylines relevant to the organization's goals and objectives. * Proficient in Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.), Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook) or ability to quickly learn. * Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks. * Works well in a team environment. * Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with the utmost discretion and diplomacy. * Willingness to assist with additional responsibilities as needed. * Ability to work a flexible, event-based schedule that may include nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours. * This is a full-time (40-hour/week), season-long position based in Sandy and Salt Lake City, Utah; remote-work (full or part time) is not permitted. **PHYSICAL DEMANDS:** * This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both written and verbally. * This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate and assess. * This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk and climb stairs for long periods of time. * This person must be able to lift 20 lbs. *Smith Entertainment Group provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
