**Department:** Human Resources **Classification:** GMU Worker **Job Category:**Part-Time / Hourly Wage **Job Type:** Part-Time **Work Schedule:**25-30 hours/week, flexible schedule Monday-Friday **Location:** Fairfax, VA **Workplace Type:** Hybrid Eligible - with some in-office presence preferred **Sponsorship Eligibility:** Not eligible for visa sponsorship **Salary:**$23 - $25/hour; Salary commensurate with education and experience **Criminal Background Check:**Yes **About the Position:** The George Mason University Resources Department is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual to serve as a part-time Communications Specialist. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive all-inclusive environment. **Responsibilities:** * Coordinate and implement internal communication plans on key initiatives, programs, policies, or issues; * Write, edit, and proofread assigned documents, including memorandums, marketing materials, technical guides, and website copy; * Perform routine updates to HR's website as requested by department colleagues and leadership; * Manage the HR communications email inbox, including referring complex issues to appropriate contacts as necessary; * Update HR's social media channels according to communication plans and/or supervisor direction; * Create graphics or visuals, including logos or other visual communication elements; and * Other related duties as assigned. **Required Qualifications:** * Strong writing and editing skills, preferably in a deadline-based environment; * Ability to translate technical policies into plain and engaging language based on target audiences' needs; * Experience with web content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal; * Experience with graphic design platforms such as Canva or Adobe Illustrator; * Ability to work independently and prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment; * Ability to handle confidential or highly sensitive information with discretion; * Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; * Ability to collaborate across teams/departments and maintain effective working relationships; and * Proficiency in Microsoft 365 programs, particularly Word. **Preferred Qualifications:** * Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Higher education, public workforce, or human resources experience; * Working knowledge of web design and/or web accessibility; and * Experience managing professional social media accounts, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter/X. **Instructions to Applicants:** For full consideration, applicants must apply for ***Communications Specialist*** at [https://jobs.gmu.edu/.](https://jobs.gmu.edu/ "https://jobs.gmu.edu/") Complete and submit the online application to include three professional references with contact information, and provide a Cover Letter/Letter of Intent with Resume for review. **Posting Open Date:** September 15, 2026 **For Full Consideration, Apply by:**  September 29, 2026 **Open Until Filled:**Yes
