Overview
Major Functions:
The Marketing Manager, Customer, serves as a strategic partner responsible for developing, executing, and optimizing customer focused marketing programs and initiatives that support customer engagement, retention, and sales growth across independent retail partners.
This role develops and executes customer marketing programs within established MDI marketing strategies, brand standards, and annual planning priorities.
This role supports ongoing campaign optimization through performance analysis, shopper insights, and data driven recommendations
Responsibilities
Accountabilities:
Owns the marketing strategy and annual marketing plan for a portfolio of MDI’s independent retail customers, including go-to-market calendars, promotional architecture, and integrated digital, print, and in-store execution.
Advises retailer owners and senior leadership on marketing strategy, competitive positioning, shopper engagement, and brand development.
Coordinates cross-functional execution across Digital Marketing, Advertising, Creative Services, Category Management, and Sales to support timely and effective delivery of marketing initiatives.
Manages customer marketing spend, monitors performance against KPI’s and provide input to ROI assessments in partnership with merchandising and marketing teams.
Analyzes shopper, category, and syndicated data (e.g., Nielsen, Circana, loyalty) to inform campaign optimization, performance reporting, and marketing recommendations.
Serves as the escalation point for marketing issues within the assigned portfolio and represents MDI Marketing in top-to-top customer business reviews.
Collaborates with peers and cross-functional partners to support effective execution of customer marketing initiatives.
Identifies new revenue and service opportunities within the customer portfolio and partners with Sales leadership to pursue them.
Applies a data-driven approach to evaluate campaign performance and customer engagement trends to inform future program improvements.
Qualifications
Desirable Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in marketing, customer marketing, retail marketing, or related fields.
Experience supporting omnichannel marketing campaigns and promotional planning.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance data and translate findings into actionable insights.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proven ability to manage marketing budgets and deliver measurable business results, with strong financial acumen to build business cases, model ROI, and confidently defend investment decisions.
Direction/Responsibility:
Works under general direction from the Senior Manager of Marketing, with priorities guided by defined objectives, timelines, and approved plans.
Exercises judgment in program execution, issue resolution, and tactical adjustments, escalating significant risks or deviations as appropriate.
Contributes recommendations related to campaign design, vendor coordination, and budget utilization, with final decisions made by management.
Serves as a key marketing contact for assigned initiatives and customer programs, partnering closely with Sales and internal teams rather than owning end-to-end customer outcomes.
